How we rank game server hosting providers

Every ranking on this page is fully automated. No provider can pay to move up, and no editorial team hand-picks winners. Each provider's position is calculated from three measurable data points, weighted into a single composite score:

50%
Customer Rating
Average star rating from verified customer reviews collected from across the web. This is the single biggest factor in where a provider ranks.
30%
Customer Satisfaction
Percentage of reviews rated 3 stars or above. A provider with a 4.5 star average but 60% satisfaction has more unhappy customers than one with 4.3 stars and 95% satisfaction.
20%
Hardware Transparency
Based on the minimum guaranteed CPU benchmark score (Passmark single-thread). Providers that only say “up to” or don't disclose their minimum CPU specs receive zero points here.

Review data is collected automatically and refreshed every two weeks. CPU benchmarks are sourced from Passmark and matched to the minimum hardware each provider publicly discloses. No provider can pay to influence their ranking.

What to look for in game server hosting

Server performance matters more than price

The CPU running your game server is the single biggest factor in performance. Games like Minecraft, Rust, and Palworld are heavily single-threaded - a server with a fast single-core CPU will always outperform a cheaper option with more cores but lower clock speeds. We score providers that publicly disclose their minimum CPU hardware against Passmark benchmarks so you can compare real performance.

Reviews tell the real story

Star ratings alone don't give the full picture. A provider with a 4.8 rating from 50 reviews is harder to evaluate than one with 4.5 from 10,000 reviews. That's why we factor in both the average rating and the satisfaction percentage - the share of customers who gave 3 stars or higher. Providers with high ratings but low satisfaction often have a vocal minority of very unhappy customers.

Hardware transparency is a trust signal

Many hosting providers advertise “high performance” or “up to 5.0 GHz” without specifying the actual minimum hardware you'll get. Providers that clearly state their minimum CPU specs are more likely to deliver consistent performance. Our ranking rewards this transparency - if a host won't tell you what hardware they use, they receive no performance score.

Game-specific hosting vs general providers

Some providers specialize in a single game (like Minecraft), while others host 140+ titles. Specialists often have deeper game-specific knowledge and pre-configured setups, but general providers give you more flexibility to switch games. We track which games each of our 110 providers supports so you can filter by the titles you actually play.

Frequently asked questions

How often are rankings updated?

Review data is scraped and refreshed automatically every two weeks. CPU benchmark data is updated every six months from Passmark. Rankings recalculate on every site build, so any change in review scores is reflected immediately.

Can providers pay to rank higher?

No. Rankings are calculated entirely from the three weighted metrics described above. There is no editorial override, sponsored placement, or pay-to-rank option. The formula is the same for every provider.

Why does a 4.9-star provider rank below a 4.8-star one?

The ranking uses a composite score, not just star ratings. A provider with 4.8 stars, 97% satisfaction, and documented hardware will outrank a 4.9-star provider with lower satisfaction or undisclosed hardware. You can click the “Rating” column header to sort by pure star rating if you prefer.

What does “N/A” mean in the performance column?

It means the provider doesn't publicly disclose the minimum CPU hardware customers will receive. They may still have good hardware, but without public documentation, we can't verify or score it.

How do you decide which providers to include?

We include any provider that offers dedicated game server hosting and has a public review profile. Currently tracking 110 providers across 140 games. If a provider is missing, it's likely because they're too new to have review data or they focus on VPS/dedicated servers rather than managed game hosting.
